NSF/ANSI 49-2024 certification — what it covers
- Awarded after 13 physical and biological challenge tests by an independent NSF-accredited testing body.
- Same credential carried by Labconco and Thermo Fisher Class II A2 cabinets.
- Required by most institutional purchasing policies (universities, hospitals, government, pharma) and for BSL-3 work per CDC/NIH BMBL 6th Edition.
- Annual field recertification required (typically $125–$150 per unit per year, by an NSF-accredited certifier).

Class II A2 ductwork — the cost most labs miss
All Pro-Safe Class II A2 cabinets (PLS150–PLS204, including the NSF-certified PLS152/153/154) operate without external ductwork — 70% air recirculation through internal HEPA filters, 30% HEPA-filtered exhaust to the room. Only Class II B2 and Class III cabinets require dedicated external exhaust ductwork. This typically saves $2,000–$8,000 in installation costs vs. a B2 specification.
