The Prospot^TM PYR test is a rapid colourimetric test for the determination of Pyrrolidonyl peptidase (PYRase) activity. The test is particularly useful in the differentiation of enterococci (PYRase-positive) from the Group D streptococci such as S. bovis which are PYRase-negative. The test is also used differentiate between Group A such as S. pyogenes (PYRase-positive) and the other ²-haemolytic streptococci (Groups B, C, F and G) which are all PYRase-negative.
